Build and Operate Facilities Efficiently: The Last Practice that Intelligently Integrates Smart Facility - Perspective from An Advanced Fab Designer

Abstract
- CH2M merged with Jacobs this past year creating a $15B professional services leader and enabling integration of the full range of facilities design and operations technologies to be integrated into the next generation of SMART manufacturing buildings and Fabs.
- The leading indicators of success in fab construction industry include optimizing design, construction and operations costs, including schedules. Achieving these metrics while meeting the technical challenges of sub 11nm technologies requires implementation of the latest design tools and operational philosophies. This presentation will discuss integration of Building Information Management (BIM) tools and SMART building philosophies to achieve more effective facilities.
- Industry leading fab designs have evolved from two dimensional (2D) to 3D models and associated BIM intelligence, successfully improving quality, reducing construction schedules (4D) and optimizing construction costs (5D). Examples of prefabrication, modular construction and integrated BIM modelling will be presented to demonstrate the progression into the next generation.
- Facilities and manufacturing operations will be more integrated following the philosophies of Industry 4.0 and Internet of Things (IoT). Practical application of these concepts will be achieved by development of SMART building and system integration designs. Examples using resource simulation tools (VERO) and Systems Integration & Control strategies will show how system, component and analytical interoperations can deploy artificial intelligence to identify and resolve disruptions and to optimize efficiencies. Therefore making SMART meaningful.
